Having had a full year to test out the methodology, I will be using a new structure for 2019.
Only World of Outlaws, All Stars, and Knoxville Nationals races will be included in determining the champion.
Only drivers participating in at least seven (7) races will be included.
Points will be awarded differently.
B-Main = 25 points.
C-Main = 15 points.
D-Main = 10 points.
E-Main = 5 points.
The "Least Squares Mean" process will be used again in 2019. This means that I am combining finishes across sanctioning bodies. If a driver averages 7th in the World of Outlaws and 2nd in All Stars races but races mostly in All Stars races, the driver will be evaluated comparable to a 7th place World of Outlaws driver instead of a 2nd place All Stars driver.
Using this criteria, here are the "Fab 40" for 2018.
I also plan on analyzing "Past 6 Races" during 2019. For instance, here is the average point total in WoO races for David Gravel during 2018.
You can see how the year progressed ... it got worse, in general.
Here is the same graph for Donny Schatz.
Point averages are consistently higher - notice that there is a stretch after the Knoxville Nationals where point totals slump a bit (maybe some testing of equipment or setups).
This is the graph for Jason Sides.
We'll figure out a few fun facts to share during the course of the 2019 season.
I'm also looking into a podcast for 2019.
So ... lots of fun coming up. Are you ready for the start of the season??!!
